POSITION TITLE: Corporate Controller

DEPARTMENT: Accounting / Finance

REPORTS TO: President

MAJOR DUTIES: 

The Corporate Controller will provide leadership and coordination of all financial accounting functions across the Eclipse Group of companies. Working directly with the owners and management teams to advise on financial matters and ensure profitability goals are met. The incumbent will be responsible for the accounting / finance operations of the companies, to include the maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and business plans / budgets approved by owners, enhance the accuracy of the company’s reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with current generally accepted Canadian accounting standards for private enterprises, delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops finance organizational strategies by contributing financial and accounting information, analysis, and recommendations to strategic thinking and direction; establishing functional objectives in line with organizational objectives.
  • Establishes finance operational strategies by evaluating trends; establishing critical measurements; designing systems; accumulating resources; resolving problems; implementing change.
  • Develops organization prospects by studying economic trends and revenue opportunities; projecting acquisition and expansion prospects; mergers and acquisitions; analyzing organization operations; identifying opportunities for improvement, cost reduction, and systems enhancement; sourcing capital to fund expansion growth.
  • Develops financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements; identifying monetary resources; developing action plans.
  • Monitors financial performance by measuring and analyzing results; initiating corrective actions; minimizing the impact of variances.
  • Maximizes return on invested funds by identifying investment opportunities; maintaining relationships with the investment community.
  • Safeguard assets and assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments.
  • Oversee the accounting departments (all divisions) and work closely with other department managers and VP’s in the organization.
  • Develop, improve and issue timely monthly financial records for senior management.
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Assure financial plans are consistent with organizational goals.
  • Provide financial analysis tools to evaluate company ventures or special projects, programs, capital expenditures, products costing, etc. when necessary.
  • Manage commercial banking relationships to facilitate an appropriate credit resource under highly competitive terms.
  • Co-ordinate with Human Resources in the development and economic evaluation of various fringe benefit programs for staff and program components.
  • Interface with outside audit firms(s), banks, group benefit insurances, property and liability insurance agent(s), legal counsel, CRA, and Export Development Canada agency.
  • Prepare the year end working papers for external auditors for the annual audit / review engagements.
  • Updates job knowledge by remaining aware of new regulations; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
  • Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision.

  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration.
  • A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Ontario license designation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in the automation / construction industry.
  • Management experience with Financial Planning and Strategy, Managing Profitability, Strategic Planning, Vision, Quality Management, Promoting Process Improvement, Forecasting, Corporate Finance, Developing Business Plans and Budgets, M&A experience, Financial Computer software knowledge, Banking, Dealing with Complexity.
