POSITION TITLE: Director of Engineering
DEPARTMENT: Executive Operations
REPORTS TO: Vice President

MAJOR DUTIES:
While providing leadership to the Engineering function of the company, the Director of Engineering will work with Plant Manager and Director of Project Management to ensure project deliverables are achieved.  In consultation with the engineering department managers, the incumbent will ensure a robust talent management strategy to increase bench strength and ensure employee development and succession plans are in place for critical roles.  Responsible for compliance to all relevant technical regulatory authorities and the implementation of related policies and procedures.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support project planning process by monitoring existing engineering workload and plans for pending projects.  Ensures engineering capacity is appropriate in relation to workload forecast and oversees resource assignment to projects.
  • Actively participates in project issue escalation, coordinating support for emergent technical challenges and reallocation of project resourcing to best achieve all critical path milestones.
  • Oversees all Engineering related non-conformances, ensuring timely closure, effective identification of root cause and corrective actions.
  • Liaise with US division counterparts to ensure relevant corporate engineering procedures are properly rolled out and implemented, and to provide support resources as required.
  • In consultation with HR, responsible for implementation and maintenance of talent management tools with regards to recruitment, employee development, performance appraisal, skills inventory, and succession planning.
  • Monitors technical regulatory environment and industry specific design governance expectations to ensure Engineering procedures adequately address business requirements.
  • Oversees company design review and technical risk management activities and procedures ensuring minimal project disruption and high customer satisfaction.
  • Responsible to administer engineering standards program, approving all new standards proposed by Project leads and ensuring standards tasks completion on all projects.
  • Manage document control function and technical writing activities and resources.
  • Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision.
  • Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code. 

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer in the province of Ontario.
  • University degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences, Robotics, Automation or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 15+ years’ experience in the design and manufacture of custom automation equipment.
  • Extensive Nuclear or Health Sciences industry experience preferred.
  • In depth understanding of machine automation design, manufacture and integration process.
  • Background in leading large multi-disciplinary teams in a dynamic, high-paced environment.
  • Experience in Applications Engineering or Project Management an asset.
