Health and Safety Coordinator

POSITION TITLE: Health and Safety Coordinator  
DEPARTMENT: Human Resources
REPORTS TO:
Human Resources Manager

MAJOR DUTIES:
Reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Human Resources Generalist will provide HR support to develop, implement and regulate company policies and procedures to ensure compliance of the current Labour, Health & Safety laws and policies. The incumbent will work within the full scope of generalist activity: recruitment, employee relations, performance management, regulatory and legal compliance, policy administration, and employee training and development, while delivering the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide guidance and interpretation of applicable health and safety legislation and strategies
  • Actively seek opportunities and activities to reduce potential injury/accidents in the workplace
  • Review and follow up with supervisors to ensure timeliness of accident investigation and follow through on corrective action and root cause analysis
  • Identify hazardous conditions and initiate corrective action
  • Collaborate with differing departments to determine health and safety improvement opportunities
  • Administer new hire orientation safety training
  • Coordinate emergency evacuation procedures
  • Maintain and update training matrix to identify when training is to expire
  • Work in conjunction with varying departments to schedule and complete training
  • Perform all in-house as training including classroom and practical training
  • Serve as a member on the Joint Health and Safety Committee and help coordinate activities, recommendations, and accountability issues identified by the JHSC
  • Coordinate monthly safety inspections and quarterly JHSC meetings, maintaining the meeting minutes and posting them on the H&S bulletin board
  • Maintaining the health and safety board, policy postings and yearly program review
  • Aid in ensuring legislative compliance with all governing bodies
  • Update H&S related forms as required
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety rules and procedures
  • Maintain and update all required safety metrics
  • Manage day to day activity in Health and Safety
  • Coordinate the full cycle recruitment including posting jobs, sourcing candidates, prescreening applicants and on boarding new hires
  • Build effective business relationships all departments to understand their operational people needs
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned
  • Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • Has successfully completed a University degree or College diploma in Human Resources Management or Health and Safety
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Train the Trainer certification
  • JHSC Certification

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in H&S, preferably in a manufacturing setting
  • Strong relationship building and partnering skills, and experience providing consultative human resources services to an internal team
  • Proven ability to research and understand applicable laws and legislation
  • Must have strong organizational skills
