Service PLC Programmer

POSITION TITLE: Service PLC Programmer
REPORTS TO: Service Manager

MAJOR DUTIES: As a member of a highly motivated, dynamic, multi-disciplined team, the Service PLC Programmer will service world-class automation solutions. Duties involve design of control software, integration of software with electrical and mechanical systems, process development and machine installation at customer sites worldwide. Programming and integration assignments involve leading-edge technologies and processes utilizing PLC’s, robotics, motion controllers, vision systems, laser and other controllers. Consistent travel to customer locations is required.


• Ability to address all controls related service issues as needed
• Ability to trouble shoot, diagnose and resolve controls related issues at customer locations often under pressure and/or when equipment is down
• Design and develop software programs (PLC) specific to customer and project requirements based on standard Eclipse programming methods
• Select, test and integrate hardware and software components such as robots, analog devices, motion controllers, sensors, vision systems and lasers
• Ability to perform equipment / system line audits for controls related work and provide detailed reports
• Ability to project manage service related opportunities
• Provide thorough testing of machine functionality to verify software program completeness
• Prepare detailed technical proposals for all customer service work, including quotations for systems opportunities, training, retrofits and on call service support
• Provide customer with training specific to their current project (i.e. machine operation, programming principles and program structure)
• Customer driven and able to respond to customer needs effectively
• Travel required up to 75% of time – Local and international travel to customer locations
• Invoicing service work, including spare parts orders, system projects, service visits and service support
• Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Code of Business Conduct
• Adhere to all health and safety rules and procedures


• A post-secondary engineering degree, diploma or equivalent, specializing in mechanical, electrical, systems or computer engineering

• Strong PLC programming and electrical problem solving skills
• Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
• Understanding of robotics, control systems and machine operation with hands-on experience is desirable
• A self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team in a fast paced environment with minimal supervision
• Experience with either RSlogix/Studio 5000 or Step 7 software platform would be desirable
