Technical Writer

Position Title: Technical Writer
Department: Controls Engineering
Reports To: Controls Engineering Manager


Reporting to the Controls Engineering Manager, the Technical Writer will create technical documentation organize and bind third-party documentation, and compile and deliver customer documentation deliverables. Candidate must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, experience writing a range of business documents, and demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced development environment. Candidate works with the Eclipse Management and department personnel to deliver the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.



  • Provide technical, clerical and administrative support related to the process of creating technical publications for the Automation Projects that Eclipse produces.
  • Author new technical documents based on the specifications from our customers and our Eclipse standard documentation offering.
  • Create images to support written material using photography and graphic design.
  • Revise documentation to incorporate product updates and product enhancements requested by customers and Eclipse internal users.
  • Provide input on documentation design, our documentation process, and documentation deliverables.
  • Proofread and edit documentation to ensure consistency of language and style, correct application of templates, screenshots, flowcharts, photographs and other graphics.
  • Must be able to take complex technical information and translate it for colleagues and consumers who have non-technical backgrounds.


  • Work towards the continuous improvement of our overall approach and maintenance of our Technical. Documentation and Technical Documentation process with a focus on output quality, content, and efficiency improvements.
  • Applicants must possess excellent organization and communication skills, combined with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.
  • Must be self-motivated and lead by example with a positive attitude and outlook.
  • Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code.
  • Adhere to the Eclipse Project Operating Policy.
  • Maintain a good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision.
  • Adhere to all Health and Safety rules and procedures.

Project Execution 

  • Evaluate our existing Eclipse documentation for improvement opportunities and recommend solutions to ensure our documentation output exceeds our customers’ expectations.
  • Partner with other departments such as Marketing, Sales, Applications, and Service, and respond to customer documentation needs.
  • Work collaboratively with the project team to obtain the required project information and verify document accuracy.
  • Work closely with Project Management, and Electrical and Mechanical Engineering personnel to successfully deliver customer documentation for custom automation projects.
  • Ensure scheduled milestones are met, and notify the appropriate supervisor if milestones cannot be met.
  • Ensure that company ISO Standards are followed.
  • Comply with Eclipse branding requirements.


  • Expectation of travel is less than 10% of time, however this may be exceeded in exceptional circumstances to meet project needs.



  • Bachelor’s degree in any related discipline or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical Writing Certificate or equivalent.


  • 5+ years of experience as a Technical Writer or transferrable writing experience.
  • Knowledge of technical communication techniques and standards.
  • Attention to detail with proficiency in proofreading, editing, writing, and graphics creation.
  • Excellent English, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working with personnel at all levels of the organization locally and remotely.
  • Self-starter who is motivated and takes the initiative to complete all Technical Documentation tasks.
  • Ability to quickly learn how to use and maintain products with a passion for technology.
  • Strong time management and prioritization skills with experience in meeting tight deadlines and adapting to changing priorities.
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, or equivalent graphic design software.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office Suite, primarily Word.
  • Experience with AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and the ability to read electrical and mechanical engineering drawings is preferred.
