Eclipse Automation provided a turnkey medical scalpel assembly system which was capable of extremely high precision inspection and assembly.

The highlights of the system include the following:

• Installation of the blade to the handle at an accuracy of +/- 25microns (4-axis pick and place assembly accuracy of +/- 3 microns per linear axis and 0.03° rotary axis) with a capability of 1.33cpk.

• Blade presentation system with dual camera vision verification and 8 micron resolution vision system.

• Precise Loctite dispensing (servo-positioned dispenser) and presence verification.

• UV curing

• Completed part assembly via 2.5 micron resolution vision system.

• Vision inspection verified absence of blade defects as well as blade position.

• Packaging of completed assemblies.

• Station includes ability to assemble several part types.

• On-board calibration.
