MTBI / Machine Tool Builder and Integrator

POSITION TITLE: Tool & Die Maker / Machine Tool Builder and Integrator
DEPARTMENT: Mechanical Assembly
REPORTS TO: Mechanical Production Supervisor

MAJOR DUTIES: Work with the Eclipse Automation Inc. design team and Project Manager to meet the customer’s requirements. Work with the management and department personnel to deliver the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.


• Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules and various hand tools
• Fit, shim and assemble parts or make repairs to dies, jigs, gauges, using various hand tools
• Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly
• Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance 
• Setup and operate conventional lathes, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
• Ability to design jigs, fixtures, and templates or products for Integration of main-assemblies and modify in-process tooling in a lean manufacturing environment
• Able to use overhead cranes, forklifts and scissor lifts
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, bill of materials, machine-tool build assembly drawing Solid Works knowledge is an asset
• Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; and make adjustments if necessary
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks,  micrometers, and dial indicators
• Devise and detail assembly plans for the machine-tool build and integrator process
• Assemble and integrate pneumatics and hydraulics, electrical components, power transmission systems, conveyor systems and feeder systems
• Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work in a team environment and actively participate in group meetings
• Complete other duties and projects as assigned
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends and or travel as required in varying timelines
• Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision
• Ensure that all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with the Eclipse Automation Inc. Conduct Code


• Has successfully completed an Apprenticeship in an automation environment and has a Certificate of Qualification for a Tool and Die maker or a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator or equivalent experience

• 5+ years experience as a Tool & Die Maker / MTBI Journeyman in a custom automation facility
• Must be able to travel for long periods of time
