POSITION TITLE: Machine Builder/Millwright
DEPARTMENT: Machine Shop
REPORTS TO: Machine Shop Supervisor

MAJOR DUTIES:Work with the Eclipse Automation Inc. design team and project manager to meet the customer’s requirements. Work with the management and department personnel to deliver the Eclipse Vision and the Eclipse Entrepreneurial Culture.

• Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; and make adjustments if necessary.
• Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules and hand tools.
• File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
• Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools using machine tools and hand tools.
• Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defects.
• Lift, position and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates.
• Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness and heat tolerance.
• Setup and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathers, milling machines, and grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes.
• Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly.
• Enforce Eclipse policies throughout the entire company including HR, Safety and environmental.
• Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scarpers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths or power grinders.
• Study blue prints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
• Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, and dial indicators.
• Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications.
• Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products.
• Read and interpret complex engineering drawings, schematics, bill of materials, machine-tool build assembly drawing.
• Perform Numerically Controlled (NC) and Computerized Numerical Control (CNC) machining.
• Devise and detail assembly plans for the machine-tool build and integrator process.
• Assemble and integrate pneumatics and hydraulics, electrical components, power transmission systems, conveyor systems and feeder systems.
• Sub-assemble machine tool components.
• Integrate main-assembly.
• Build in-process tooling.
• Work with Human Resources and abide to Employment Standards Act and the Eclipse Employee Handbook.
• Ensure concepts meet Eclipse Automation quality, safety and reliability standards.
• Maintain company confidentiality.
• Maintain good corporate citizen role in support of the Eclipse corporate Vision.

• Work requires professional written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to motivate teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes. Ability to participate in and facilitate group meetings.
• Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule.
• Working conditions are normal for an office environment with travel required.
• Work requires weekend and/or evening work.
• Must be flexible and aggressive in adapting to business changes.
• Will be required to communicate with all department personnel after build project completion to review entirety of projects and to develop ever evolving changes in product concept design

• Has successfully completed an Apprenticeship in an automation environment and have a Certificate of Qualification for a Millwright, Tool and Die maker or a Machine Tool Builder and Integrator
