Microsoft’s Smart Mirror

magic-mirrorAs individuals get ready for work each day, multitasking becomes a large part of everyone’s morning ritual in order to sleep in as late as possible and still get to work on time. Whether it’s brushing your teeth in the shower or reading the weather forecast as you eat, these little shortcuts save time and eliminate extra tasks. Microsoft has unveiled a new ‘smart mirror’ to enhance this multitasking process, which on top of showing your reflection can display relevant information to help you start the day.

The Magic Mirror is comprised of a 23.6 inch LCD screen behind a one-way mirror, allowing you to see both your reflection and the display simultaneously. The screen displays white UI elements on a dark background which allows the images and writing to appear clearly on the mirror. It also displays time, weather, traffic, and other facts which help you streamline your morning. Furthermore, the mirror is able to recognise facial emotions of the individual to adjust its settings to match the user’s mood.

The mirror runs on a Raspberry Pi 3 microcomputer and receives its facial recognition feature from Windows Hello technology. This software is able to recognize up to eight different emotions and can display information relevant to the person’s mood to cheer them up or simply increase their joy.

Eclipse Automation offers many unique display solutions, much like Microsoft’s Smart Mirror for the telecommunications and electronics industry.
